Having a career that pains you doesn’t mean you’re doomed to back pain for the rest of your life. Understanding how each profession affects your body can help ensure you take necessary precautions to prevent injury.
First of all, becoming a police officer is not for the faint of heart. Not only is the job emotionally challenging, but it is extremely physically demanding as well. In fact, it’s on the top of our list for professional back killers. That’s because cops spend a large portion of their day driving a car, which can be terrible on the lower back. In addition, constantly getting in and out of their vehicle is not so great either. This high-stress professional back killer causes many cops to suffer from tense muscles too.
Similar to cops, truck drivers spend even more time behind the wheel. Most of the time, they are on the road from the time they wake up until they pull over for the evening. That much time sitting is very bad for anyone, some doctors say it’s even worse than smoking. Intermittent stretching can help relieve symptoms, but it’s difficult to find places for a semi to pull over. Plus, many truck drivers are on a time limit anyway so that isn’t an option. Unfortunately, truck drivers are forced to live with the pain because they can’t take any medication stronger than Tylenol or Ibuprofen.

Next, we dive into the world as a dental professional. Sometimes, a career in the dental field means positioning the body in a way that could be harmful over time. That’s because the dentist has to be able to see what he/she is working on, meaning that the body isn’t always in a comfortable position. The same is true for dental assistants and hygienists. Many dental professionals complain of back and neck pain, the solution to this isn’t as simple as it sounds, however. Taking a lot of breaks to stretch isn’t always possible, especially if it happens to be a particularly busy day.
Sitting at a computer screen all day is super detrimental to your body. But with blogging on the rise, the number of back pain sufferers is on the rise too. A lot of the time, bloggers will work from home, and not always in the best position. To help prevent back and neck pain, stretch breaks should be taken every so often. In addition, it’s important to have an ergonomically correct workspace.
